Special Online Prayer Gathering on the Assisted Dying Bill
This is a re-post of this news item, originally posted by Linda Stalley, which you may not have seen:
Here is an email invitation from Celia Bowring of CARE:
Dear praying friends,
We face the very serious prospect of physician assisted suicide becoming law. The Meacher Bill's crucial Lords Second Reading is in September. Meanwhile, Liam McArthur has tabled a similar Bill in the Scottish Parliament and we are watching how that develops too. I believe this is a critical spiritual battle and have sensed God's urging to engage with prayer movements, streams and groups like yours. These Bills represent a dangerous step in themselves, but also in paving the way for further forms of legal euthanasia in the UK. As we know, vocal lobbies are very effective – look at what's happening on the whole sexual identity front and how abortion is in imminent danger of being on demand. The Dignity in Dying, previously Exit, (Baroness Meacher is the Chair) activists are determined.
So, my desire is to equip you with easily digested and accessible information so that you can encourage people to pray.
We'd especially value as many of us as possible to agree in prayer on the day of the Meacher Bill debate (not known yet) and perhaps before. There won't be any physical events, but good old Zoom will certainly help! CARE is hosting a session on Wednesday 28 July, 12.30 – 1.15pm. https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/care-prayer-gathering-for-life-assisted-suicide-tickets-159970820029 Everyone is of course warmly welcome.
